the stretchy factor didn't occur to me at the time. What type of rope is best for this use? I bought nylon rope thinking it would never rot. The knots aren't slipping - it's definitely a result of rope stretching. The seat started at about my knee level, and after an hour of play, it was practically brushing into the mulch. While it was fun for a while, we quickly realized that nylon rope stretches. I made a wooden seat, bought a 100' length of nylon rope, and we hung it up yesterday afternoon. We have a nice big pin oak in the back yard, with a nice big branch in the right place. My beloved (we got married just last week) desires a rope swing for her four-year-old daughter.
